Newsletter 4th October 2019

This month we will be looking at the following value:

  • LOVE

Dear Parents,

We have had a successful week at Charlton.

On Monday we were inundated with lots of clothing items which you donated. We should know in a few weeks how much the school raised.

On Tuesday, we were visited by Catherine Hayward, the Local Authority Lead Officer for School Improvement. She met with many of the staff and pupils, spent time in lessons and was very impressed with the levels of engagement and purposeful atmosphere within the school.

On Wednesday, the FSU travelled on a bus as part of their topic all about transport. The children really enjoyed the experience and used this stimulus to form their first independent NEWT of the year.

Today I led the end of week celebration assembly. I was delighted to see so many children receive the Headteacher's award; we had representatives from every class within the school.

On a completely different note, following discussions with teachers, it has come to light that some children are not reading at home or practicing their spellings.

The Home-School agreement signed by all families clearly states that parents/carers will:

‘Read with my child and practice their spellings as it states in the homework policy’.

The purpose of homework is to provide opportunities for parents to be involved in their child’s learning. It enables children to practice and consolidate skills and aims to broaden the context of learning and provide enrichment and extension.

Taking time to read with your child and supporting them in learning their spellings is invaluable and will support their progress within school.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the parents/families who do spend time supporting their children with reading and spelling and encourage all families to support the school, the teachers and your children by investing time in their learning outside of the classroom.

Have a great weekend.
