Newsletter 18th October 2019

This half term we will be looking at the following value:

  • Love

Dear parents,

It has been an exciting week at Charlton. On Monday and Tuesday our Year 5 and 6 children were at Youlbury Scouts Adventure Centre taking part in a range of fun activities including the 3G Swing and Abseiling. Please go under Events to see pictures and videos.

Stanley in Year 5 said, ‘it was a good experience being around a lot of wildlife. I really enjoyed the 3G swing because you didn’t know when you were going to drop to the ground. I didn’t expect it, but it was definitely one of the best experiences in my life.’

Hope in Year 6 said, ‘I really liked being around my class. The best thing was the 3G swing and Pioneering. I learnt lots of skills such as team work and cooperation. It was amazing!’

On Thursday, the Year 3 and 4 pupils represented the school at a football tournament. They did amazingly well with one team getting to the semi-finals. Leo in Year 4 enjoyed playing against other schools. He scored six goals and said the best moment was scoring the winning goal in the first match, a sublime finish from the penalty spot curling past the opposition goalkeeper.

Neive in Year 3 really liked the experience, she said it was great fun and a chance to be with her friends and become better at football.

I would like to thank all of the parents who attended the consultation evening this week. It was great to see so many of you attend and I look forward to seeing many more of you next week.

On a final note, next Wednesday between 09:10 and 10:10 is the class open morning. All parents and grandparents are invited to join in with your child’s learning and to see a lesson in action.

Have a great weekend and enjoy the scary disco later.

Mr Griffin

- Year 5 and 6's trip to Youlbury by Emily Fr.

When we went to Youlbury we did five activities: photo trail; shelter building; abseiling; 3G swing and pioneering. In shelter building we made a little shelter for our puppet and a big shelter for us - good job for us as it was raining cats and dogs!

Abseiling

Abseiling was great fun. We went down a big wooden tower wearing a harness with someone at the top lowering you down.  It's scary when you step over the edge, but fun on your way down. It was very tiring though as you had to walk up a lot of stairs.

3G Swing

With a partner, you go up in a swing whilst getting pulled really high by everyone else.  When you get to the place you want to swing from you shout ‘stop’ and everyone else shouts 3,2,1,G. At this moment, you pull a black rope and swing.

Pioneering

We found out how to do two knots so we could make a car with barrels and wood. Once we had made it, we raced down the field. The brakes were really clever; it was a long piece of rope that everyone else had to pull.

- NEWT

It's NEWT (Now Everyone Writing Together) time again.  Next week the children will be writing a narrative (story) based on work they have been learning about in class.  FSU will be writing about transport.  Year 1/2 will be writing a story based on the book 'The Tiger Who Came to Tea'.  Year 3/4 will be writing a narrative about Stone Age times and Year 5/6 will be writing a story based on the book 'Little Ships'.

Please talk to your child about some of the exciting vocabulary they might like to use.  The younger children could practise saying some sentences that could be written and the older children could think about the different ways they could start and structure a sentence.  In their writing, we will be looking for all the work they have been doing in Read Write Inc and grammar lessons.

As always, we thank you for your support with talking homework - it really does make a difference.

We are looking forward to seeing the children's amazing writing!

- Attendance

Attendance for this week is 96.30%.

A Form/Survey will be sent directly to your email address next week.

    Form to be available soon.

- After School Clubs

Please note that the Final CAST session for Term 2 will be on Tuesday 17th Dec.

There will be no provision for After School Club on Wednesday or Thursday that week.

The Singing & Multisports Clubs will run until the week starting 9th Dec but not the last week of term.

Mr Griffin intends to continue the Football Club in November but due to the shorter days, it will cease in December.

- Menu Week

Please be aware that on your return from half term, the menu will be for WEEK 1 and not WEEK 3. For some reasons, the Lunch Company got their dates wrong and in order to avoid parents/children's confusion, we have decided to carry on using the Menu Options as they are printed.

- Recipes

It is not too late to send your recipes for the School Recipe Book so please email Michell Foster at charltonschoolassociation@gmail.com. You don't need to add pictures but a good recipe and a little story to go with it would be wonderful.

Michelle is particularly keen to get some recipes from Yr 1/2 children.

Thank you for your support.
