Newsletter 6th March 2020

This half term we will be looking at the following value:

  • Forgiveness

Dear Parents,

We have had a very exciting time celebrating World Book Day. The children had lots of fun decorating their potatoes (see pictures below and News & Events/Gallery). Many of you came in to school to read with the children; this was a lovely activity and will help inspire pupils to read more and try a different range of books. Thank you to the PTA for arranging the after school book and cake sale; it was incredibly well attended and a fantastic way to end the week. We raised an incredible £170 which will go towards the Year 3 and 4 Stratford-Upon-Avon trip!

The children have really enjoyed the start of our whole school healthy eating challenge, 'Eat Them To Defeat Them.' Every day, children come up to me and tell me how many vegetables they have eaten. Keep it up!

On Wednesday, the Year 1 and 2 class visited the Science Oxford Centre (more pictures in the gallery). Without question, this was one of the most memorable science visits I have ever been on. The range of learning opportunities available to children of all ages makes this a fantastic experience for the whole family.  Children were able to learn about different habitats, to witness science experiments in action and explore science in all its wonder.

- PTA News

You may be aware that the Trim Trail in the main school playground hasn’t been used fully by the children over the winter.  Some of the reason for this is that the flooring needs replacing and some of the equipment is broken.  As with all these things it will be expensive to replace and mend but a worthwhile thing to do as the Children get a lot of fun from it.  We have decided to make this our priority for fundraising for the rest of the school year.  In order to raise enough money, we will not only continue with our school events but also be looking for grants and donations from the wider community.  If you have any contacts or know any companies that award grants or match fund for charities, please can you let the PTA know.  We will also be registering for Gift Aid so that we can maximise any donations that we receive.  If you feel you would like to make a donation please contact a member of the PTA in person, via our email or leave your name with the office.

Because we are a small school raising large amounts of money is difficult, and places a heavy burden on parents we can’t always be asking you for money but there are schemes such as Easy Fundraising and Amazon Smile that will donate without costing us any extra money.  If you haven’t done already, please consider registering.  Easy Fundraising is currently donating £5 for each new person that signs up, you don’t have to be connected to the school anyone can do this.  So please encourage friends, family, work colleagues, neighbours etc to support the school.

https://www.smile.amazon.co.uk

There’s also a chance to win £25,000 each week and donate to the school through the Cherwell Community Lottery.  By purchasing a ticket and choosing Charlton on Otmoor School Association you can not only support the school but also support other local good causes.  Tickets can be bought weekly or by direct debit on a monthly basis.

For more information or to buy tickets call 01295 533322 or visit https://www.CherwellLottery.co.uk

Easter Mini Fete Friday 3rd April immediately after school.  It will be a fun afternoon with the usual Easter Hunt, chocolate tombola, raffle, refreshments as well as a couple of fun stalls.  We have consulted the School Council who asked for ideas from their fellow students about competitions and the answers came back that they would like egg decorating and Easter Bonnet competitions.  The theme this year for the eggs will be the Olympics and free choice of decoration for the bonnets.  More details to follow but entries should be brought to school by 9am Friday 3rd April ready for judging and to be displayed at the event.

What families are saying about us:

My son loved every minute of it - the teachers, the location, the music and even the music theory! He particularly commented on Edward's style of  conducting. He also really enjoyed the mini-concerts at the end of the day. It was stretching and satisfying in a glorious setting. He immediately said,  voluntarily - "I'd love to do it again!"  Mrs W.

My daughter loved the course. She liked the variety of activities, the fact she was always busy, and had the opportunity to learn different kinds of music.  Mrs F.

My son has always been quite apprehensive about singing, especially in public and with other people, so the.. (course) week has been a very positive experience for him in terms of instilling his confidence to sing and increasing his appreciation of music. Thank you for all your wonderful work.  Mrs C.

As parents, we thought the daily performances were amazing (especially Stabat Mater learnt in one day!), it was lovely to see a group of children so enthralled with the music and their teachers, and the final concert at the end of the week was a lovely way to finish. They have been singing the pieces on and off ever since!  Perth parent.

My husband and I were blown away by how much the kids achieved during the few days they were singing together. We truly looked forward to hearing them every afternoon. Mrs P.

Bursaries are available on all our courses.  Booking is via our website -  www.oxbridgesingingschool.com or for more information, please email Samantha Wickham on Samantha@oxbridgesingingschool.com and I'd be happy to help.
