- Letter from Mr Griffin

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." Romans 15:13

Dear Parents,

Yesterday, Boris Johnson spoke to us all about working together so that we can turn the tide and defeat the Coronavirus. The last five days has epitomised what Charlton-on-Otmoor Primary School is all about; we have shown that in time of adversity, we stand together and work together to provide the best for our children.

I would like to thank all the staff who have worked tirelessly over the past week to keep everything as normal as possible. Academic standards have remained high with many classes undertaking their Spring assessments to showcase all that they have learnt over the past few months.

Today, you will have been sent information about 'home learning.' Over the next two weeks, teachers will continue to set work as per a normal school week with a range of learning activities. Should you have any questions regarding the work set, please contact the school office or the teachers via the online platform 'Google Classroom.'

Families can find additional information that they might find useful on the School Life App under the section Google Classroom/E-Learning Plan. (i.e: Instructions for remote Teaching/Non-screen activities/Joe Wicks "PE daily routine"/How can family cope with self-isolating together/IT support for Parents/Covid 19- Source of support/Cool when working from home).

The school will remain open for the foreseeable future for children of parents classified by the Government as 'key workers' as well as for our vulnerable children. I will continue to provide regular updates to all of you to inform you about any key changes as they happen.

It is incredibly difficult to comprehend the reality that we will not have a full school on Monday. This is not something I ever expected I would have to imagine as a Headteacher. We will miss all of you especially the children who make the school so unique.

I hope to see all of you back at school very soon.

Best wishes

Mr Griffin

- Attendance

The attendance this week is 88.89%.

- "Key Workers"

If you are a "key worker" and need your child to be in school, please do let us know the days and times as soon as possible and at the latest Sunday night. (please see Mr Griffin letter).

If your child is coming on Monday, please send him/her with a packed lunch. We will advise how we will organise school lunches after Monday.

- PTA News

A sad day for Charlton on Otmoor School as they close for the foreseeable future.

Just to confirm that the planned PTA events – Easter event 3rd April, Mayday celebrations 1st May and Summer Fete 6th June have all been cancelled or postponed.  Depending on when the schools re-open to all pupils we will try to do something but maybe in a different form as the children love these events.

The Tesco Help for Bags scheme has been postponed, once we have more information about when it will be reinstated and our bid for the prize will start, we will let you know.

Everyone should receive today a letter from the PTA with a bar of chocolate or sweets and 2 sunflower seeds.  We thought it would be fun to have a sunflower growing competition – who can grow the tallest one by Friday 17th July – a prize will be awarded. Let us know how it’s going either via Facebook or email us.  Pictures, photos (not of children) measurements and we’ll keep a leader’s board.  If you didn’t receive this, please let us know and we’ll arrange for you to get one.

As a school community it would be great to keep in touch so please keep posting on our Facebook site, sharing items that you feel might be of interest to others.  Can we just ask that you look at the rules for what is acceptable to post in our group, if you’re unsure please contact the Admin team.

As we will be unable to fund raise with events for a while and therefore won’t be able to raise as much money for the school this year, please could we ask you to look at the Internet fundraising schemes which don’t cost you anything to do and will continue to benefit the school.  There is also the Cherwell Community Lottery which not only benefits the school, but also other community projects and you never know you might win £25,000!

Many of us will be spending our time at home having a good clear out – if you could put any good quality clothes for Rags to Riches, potential raffle prizes and pre-loved school uniform to one side that would be great.

Finally, we’d like to thank everyone for their support and hope you all remain well. Keep in touch.
